Reliable offshore infrastructure depends on equipment that performs when it matters most. Liebherr is supporting this demand with a Liebherr RL 2600 offshore crane destined for a major hydrocarbon development in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. Located around 70 kilometres southwest of Baku, this long-standing offshore hub is among the region’s most significant energy projects. As part of an ongoing expansion programme, extensive work is progressing, including the construction of a new electrically powered unmanned compression platform and several associated offshore and onshore facilities. The crane will be supplied to an international energy operator for installation on the new platform, further enhancing the project’s operational capabilities.
Reliable lifting solutions for offshore projects
The RL series has established itself over many years as a dependable offshore allrounder, appreciated for its balance of low weight, compact dimensions and enduring performance. Designed with the realities of offshore work in mind, the RL 2600 combines a streamlined profile with a minimal tail swing, enabling efficient use of limited platform space. With an outreach of 45 metres and a lifting capability of 25 tonnes, the RL 2600 for this project provides the versatility required for a wide spectrum of offshore handling and support tasks. Its reach and lifting capacities support a broad range of day-to-day activities, from supply handling to essential maintenance tasks. Its robust engineering philosophy helps to ensure consistent operation even in challenging sea and weather conditions. Enhanced autonomy through advanced maintenance technology
The crane is equipped with LiMain, supplied as part of the project’s overall scope. The LiMain system enables selected maintenance activities to be carried out from shore, which reduces the need for technicians to visit the platform. This is particularly valuable for installations designed as normally unattended facilities, which may receive only minimal scheduled visits each year. Longer intervals between site campaigns place higher demands on all installed equipment, making reliable digital support essential for sustained performance. The system supports important tasks such as automatic lubrication, and it also performs a hydraulic end-of-line-self-test that helps to confirm essential functions before operation. Its modular setup gives operators the flexibility to choose the level of digital monitoring and service assistance that suits the platform. This increases operational autonomy and supports dependable crane performance in challenging offshore conditions.
