LRB 19 from Liebherr installs sheet pile walls for short project

Whether a machine proves its worth in everyday life is not decided when it is actually used, but long before that. ‘Set-up and dismantling times are fairly important for us. We also have small construction jobs – if we need two days to set-up and dismantle then that is not economical. Now we are ready in an hour and can start straight away,’ says Jan ter Beek, Manager at Heisig Spezialtief- und Wasserbau GmbH, glancing at the piling and drilling rig LRB 19 from Liebherr. The machine also scores when it comes to transport, thanks to its compact design. ‘That was one of the most important factors when purchasing the LRB 19. We can transport it under 60 tonnes and if we remove the counterweight, even under 40 tonnes – with our own low-loader and without a heavy load permit,’ adds Jan ter Beek.

During the construction of a new grain silo in Clenze Lower Saxon, the LRB 19 from Liebherr is installing a temporary sheet pile wall. A total of 36 double sheet piles are being vibrated 10 metres into the ground using the LV 23 – each pile with a vibrating time of only five minutes. ‘The performance of the vibrator is very good. You can tell that it is well suited to the LRB 19,’ tells Jan ter Beek. The improved hose guide further optimises the work process. A new hose sledge ensures that there are no more obstructive hoses during use, which makes the installation of sheet piles in particular much easier.

Conditions on the jobsite are challenging: stiff cohesive soil, limited space and close proximity to existing infrastructure and utility lines. The compact design of the LRB 19 once again proves itself exactly here, it allows for precise work even in confined spaces and in the immediate vicinity of sensitive areas. ‘The foundation pit is small and the machine can still move easily – that is a major strength. The working radius is also extremely positive compared to the competition. We are very satisfied with it,’ says Jan ter Beek happily. Heisig Spezialtief- und Wasserbau GmbH successfully completed the entire work in just three days.

The LRB 19 can be used for a wide range of applications in deep foundation work: for piling or vibrating applications, the all-rounder is equipped with the H 6 hammer or the LV 23 and LV 23 F vibrators, all from Liebherr. Drilling with Kelly equipment, double rotary head, full displacement equipment and continuous flight auger or soil mixing are further areas of application. The name LRB 19 reflects the maximum travel distance of the sledge: 19 metres.

The various attachments can be easily exchanged using the hydraulic quick connection system – without tools and without the driver having to leave the cabin. All hydraulic, mechanical and electrical connections are automatically coupled. This significantly reduces the set-up time and prevents connection errors. ‘It used to always take us an hour for the change between vibrator and rotary drive. Accordingly, colleagues tried to work with one machine for as long as possible. Now we exchange them in ten minutes,’ says Jan ter Beek.
