Liebherr LR 11350 erects the world’s tallest wind turbine
- Schmidbauer Group’s LR 11350 crawler crane completes world-record-breaking turbine in Brandenburg
- The heaviest component weighed 375 tonnes gross
- GICON high-altitude wind turbine, at 365 metres, is the second-tallest structure in Germany
At the end of September, what is now the world’s tallest wind turbine was completed. A Liebherr LR 11350 crawler crane from Schmidbauer GmbH & Co. KG was used in the construction of the prototype of the so-called GICON high-altitude wind turbine in Lusatia, Brandenburg. Immediately after the rotor blades were fitted, the inner tower of the truss structure was telescoped upwards using an integrated system. This brings the turbine’s total height to 365 metres, making it Germany’s second-tallest structure after the Berlin TV Tower.
