The Design Drafter prepares new or makes revisions to clear, complete and accurate detail drawings or assembly drawings and/or Bill Of Materials (BOMs) from rough or detailed sketches, Engineering Change Requests (ECR’s), notes or verbal instructions and assists in minor design projects.

Responsibilites

Level I & II

  • Works according to and complies with established departmental and company procedures.
  • Creates production drawings using computer aided drafting software with guidance from supervisor.
  • Works from sketches, marked prints, verbal instructions or ECRs.
  • Responds to requests from manufacturing, including occasional trip to the shop as necessary or requested to possibly assist or review a potential engineering documentation related issue and its effect with production.
  • Creates engineering notices as historical documents required for the release of new or revised drawings or BOMs.
  • Utilizes the Liebherr BaaN system to generate or maintain the proper information required for releasing drawings. This information includes but may not be limited to creating or revising BOMs.
  • Creates or revises BOMs in BaaN, including setting up engineering notices with the proper revision levels along with the necessary text information required, explaining in detail the reason.

Level III

  • Works according to and complies with established departmental and company procedures.
  • Creates minor designs utilizing 3D modeling and production drawings using computer aided drafting software with guidance from supervisor.
  • Provides design input for product improvement including cost reduction.
  • Works from sketches, marked prints, verbal instructions or ECRs.
  • Responds to requests from manufacturing, including occasional visit to the shop as necessary or requested to possibly assist or review a potential engineering documentation related issue and its effect with production.
  • Creates engineering notices as historical documents required for the release of new or revised drawings or BOMs.
  • Utilizes the Liebherr BaaN system to generate or maintain the proper information required for releasing drawings. This information includes but may not be limited to creating or revising BOMs.
  • Creates or revises BOMs in BaaN, including setting up engineering notices with the proper revision level along with the necessary text information required, explaining in detail the reason.

Level IV

  • Works according to and complies with established departmental and company procedures.
  • Participates in Engineering Development Programs.
  • Works with Engineers to help specify certain components as required to assist in engineering projects. Projects may include some pro-e modeling along with creating production drawings using computer-assisted design (CAD) or drafting equipment software.
  • Provides design input for product improvement including cost reduction working from sketches, marked prints, verbal instructions or ECRs to create detailed drawings and/or assemblies or make revisions to existing drawings.
  • Responds to request from manufacturing, including occasional visit to the shop as necessary or requested to possibly assist or review a potential engineering documentation related issue and its effect with production.
  • Utilizes the Liebherr BaaN system to generate or maintain the proper information required for releasing drawings. This information includes but may not be limited to creating or revising bills of material.
  • Creates or revises BOMs in BaaN, including setting up engineering notices with the proper revision level along with the necessary text information required, explaining in detail the reason.

Competencies

Level I

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and use of AutoCAD.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute area, volume and weights.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of BaaN system as it relates to truck BOM structure and inventory control.
  • Ability to create drawings with proper views and dimensions to meet the design criteria.​​​​​​​

Level II

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.S.) or equivalent from a two year college or technical school for engineering drafting and design; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience​​​​​​​.​​​​​​​
  • Knowledge and use of AutoCAD.
  • Basic knowledge and use of Pro-E or the ability to learn Pro-E.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute area, volume and weights.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of BaaN system as it relates to truck BOM structure and inventory control.
  • Ability to create drawings with proper views and dimensions to meet the design criteria.
  • Knowledge of BaaN system as it relates to truck BOM structure and inventory control.

Level III & IV

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.S.) or equivalent from a two year college or technical school for engineering drafting and design; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and use of AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge and use of Pro-E for modeling purposes.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute area, volume and weights.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of BaaN system as it relates to truck BOM structure and inventory control.
  • Ability to create drawings with proper views and dimensions to meet the design criteria.
  • Ability to check own work and work of others
