Due to the increase in the number of trainees, the old training workshop had become somewhat cramped. In September 2021, the time had come: a small celebration was organized to mark the reopening of the expanded and modernized Liebherr training center. Now covering an area of 1,000 m2, the workshop areas for mechanics and electronics as well as new training and meeting rooms once again have sufficient space.

Ultra-modern technology

A media supply system has been installed in the training rooms: ducts for electricity and compressed air run along the ceiling so that no annoying cables and hoses are getting in the way of the floor during practical lessons. The welding stations in the mechanical area are equipped with state-of-the-art extraction systems. In addition, mobile partition walls allow flexible use of the rooms, also for events.

The commitment of all involved

The renovation took place during ongoing operations in the training workshop. “It went under the heading of special challenges,” Matthias Fendt, Electrical Engineering Trainer, recalls with a laugh. The trainees lent a hand themselves wherever it was relevant to training and permitted within the framework of occupational safety. “The trainees helped with electrical installations or the assembly and disassembly of machines. In this way, they were able to see beyond the horizon of their training and do their bit for the new training center,” Fendt continues.

I am totally thrilled. The new training center is not at all like the old training workshop. We now learn in a large, bright, and ultra-modern training facility, where we also have state-of-the-art digitalization technology.

Digital training

The trainees work with notebooks and newly acquired so-called convertibles; a mixture of notebooks and tablets. The industrial mechanics’ trainees are already using the latter in the digital class at the Kempten vocational school and are therefore completing their training entirely paperlessly. “The changeover to purely digital training in the mechanical and electrical areas was driven forward with great commitment by the training team and accepted with enthusiasm by the trainees. In the future, all trainees will complete their training completely digitally,” reports Training Manager Walter Ferstl. The new, modernized training center is therefore an essential part of Liebherr’s successful training concept and is enabling the company to move into the future together with its trainees.
