Liebherr-Transportation Systems has been contracted by Bombardier Transportation GmbH of Mannheim, (Germany), to supply 20 cooling systems for PRIMOVE® battery systems. The rail vehicle manufacturer will equip the new tram vehicles in the city of Nanjing (China) with these battery systems. The cooling systems ensure that the high-quality lithium ion batteries are operated under optimal thermal conditions. They thus play a vital role in boosting the efficiency and durability of the high-performance electrical batteries, which enable the trams to run largely without overhead power lines. Ultimately, the environmental balance of urban public transport in Nanjing can be substantially improved by Liebherr’s cooling systems.

Liebherr will manufacture the systems at its plant in Korneuburg (Austria) and will deliver them to the customer by the end of this year. After the power units have been completed at Bombardier's production facilities in Mannheim, they will be transferred together with the cooling systems to Puzhen (China). There, under the auspices of the Chinese vehicle manufacturer China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Industry (Group) Corporation (CSR), they will be installed in the final assembly of the trams.
