What advantages do air conditioning systems with natural refrigerants have in comparison to conventional air conditioning systems operated with the refrigerant R134a and how can the former cool and heat public transport vehicles sustainably? Liebherr-Transportation Systems successfully completed the project to investigate and answer this question in the framework of the environmental research plan of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, Dessau-Rosslau (Germany).

Liebherr's air-based air-cycle air conditioning system was tested, measured and evaluated for two years in Deutsche Bahn cars. This Liebherr technology is considered to be particularly environmentally friendly as it uses only natural ambient air for cooling and no refrigerant.
