Increased performance using derrick ballast
The use of derrick ballast as the counterweight enables lattice boom cranes to manage vastly higher load capacities. Liebherr develops and manufactures practical derrick ballast systems for a very wide range of applications.
Variable derrick systems

Derrick ballast: High load capacity in action
A Liebherr LR 11350 crawler crane moves a column weighing 740 tonnes. The required load capacity is made possible by 510 tonnes of suspended counterweight tray at a radius of 22.5 metres.
The increased counterweight radius with derrick ballast increases the load torque. This enables lattice boom cranes to achieve higher load capacities and greater working radii. The derrick ballast from Liebherr is available in the form of suspended counterweight tray or a ballast wagon.
The infinite radius adjustment makes the systems extremely variable. This means that on almost all models the suspended counterweight tray can be adjusted with the derrick boom without guidance whilst fully loaded. With a guiding frame the ballast wagon and suspended counterweight tray can achieve an even greater radius. This results in even higher load capacities. With a small radius the derrick ballast will adjust perfectly to a constricted working environment. If there is adequate space available, on the other hand, the increased radius enables ballast weights to be saved and higher load capacities to be achieved.
Proven technology focussing on safety
Derrick ballast from Liebherr has been proven in everyday use. The focal point in its development is the safety of the operating personnel. We design a whole range of safety equipment such as railing and access ladders to ensure this.
