What is your field of business?

Alex Warrington: Select is one of the UK’s largest, and most capable, suppliers of equipment and services to the construction and building services industry. The company owns and operates one of the UK’s largest and varied fleets of construction equipment, from cranes to compressors, traffic lights to transport; Select supports major project from design to completion.

How relevant is an electric crane to your market?

Alex Warrington: With one of the largest fleets of crawler cranes in the UK we have always sought to lead the industry by sourcing cranes with the latest technology engines. We identified crawler cranes as an area of potential for electric machines and are proud to partner with Liebherr whose exciting product development have made this a reality.

How do you see the future for electric construction machines (Zero Emission)?

Alex Warrington: Sustainability is central to all of Select‘s product development goals with the aim of contributing towards a zero carbon ambition. Select has not only invested in electric cranes but also electric concrete pumps, MEWPs, advanced technology electric tower cranes and hoists which have a much lower power consumption. We are also using solar and hybrid power solutions to reduce the requirement for large diesel generators.

The industry is placing a much greater value on sustainability, energy consumption and zero carbon targets. Our aim is to play a key role in helping to drive this change across the industry by partnering with clients and contractors to deliver innovative solutions to this global challenge.
