Innovative materials for crawler cranes
As the first crane manufacturer, Liebherr relies on trusted carbon fibre technology for crawler cranes with a capacity of up to 300 tonnes. This is a particularly good opportunity to save weight.
Modern materials with the focus on lightweight construction

LR 1300 crawler crane with CFRP holding bars
As an option, crawler cranes up to 300 tonnes can be equipped with holding bars, lashing points and fall-back protection manufactured from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP).
As an option, crawler cranes up to 300 tonnes can be equipped with carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) holding bars, lashing points and fall-back protection. Among the advantages of the components that are up to three times lighter are:
- Higher static tensile strength with the same cross section
- Wear-free and non-corroding
- Longer boom combinations owing to lower weight of CFRP holding bars
- Up to 50% higher load bearing capacity, particularly with longer reach
- Flexibility: Assembly and disassembly of the equipment is easier and faster as no auxiliary crane is required to handle the holding bars.
Carbon fibre reinforced plastic
Carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) can be shaped optimally, insulates against noise and is resistant to corrosion. For this reason, GRP is being used more frequently as a material for cabs and machine houses.
Innovative materials
In recent years, Liebherr has been responsible for a number of innovative applications thanks to ongoing developments in material usage.
