08/21/2014 Fifty Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 mobile cranes sold

  • Liebherr's heavy duty crane has become well established in the market.

A fantastic intermediate result for a crane in this load capacity class: the fiftieth Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 large crane will be delivered in September. The mobile crane with a maximum load capacity of 1,200 tonnes was sold to Japanese company Yamagata. General manager Koichi Sambonsuge visited the Liebherr plant in Ehingen to inspect his new purchase.

This superlative crane was first unveiled to the public in 2007 at the Bauma in Munich and immediately created a great deal of interest in the industry. To date the LTM 11200-9.1 is the most powerful telescopic mobile crane on the market. At the same time its 100 metre telescopic boom is one of the longest worldwide. With lattice extensions and luffing jib, it is possible to reach hoisting heights of up to 188 metres.

The fifty cranes delivered to date have been sent to countries all over the world. For example, seven LTM 11200 9.1 cranes are owned by German companies, five more are in Mexico and four are in Brazil. The new crane for Yamagata goes to Japan, making a total of five in that country.

Universal mobile crane

The LTM 11200-9.1 features enormous flexibility in use. In addition to jobs in wind farms, it is ideal for a wide range of use in industry and infrastructure projects. Massive increases in load capacity can be achieved using the Y telescopic boom guying. This enables the LTM 11200-9.1 to hoist very heavy loads. The nine-axle crane can also provide a large radius using its lattice luffing jib which is up to 126 metres in length.

Yamagata Co., Ltd.

The Yamagata Co., Ltd. Group is based in Ibaraki in Japan and employs over 1000 personnel. The company specialises in all types of transport. Yamagata has a particularly great deal of experience and expertise in transporting components for wind turbines. The company plans to expand its activities in the wind farm sector in the future and also intends to erect wind power plants in a joint venture with a partner. Yamagata placed its order for the new LTM 11200-9.1 with this in mind. Several employees of Yamagata were extensively trained in theory and practice in the manufacturers plant in Ehingen to be able to set-up and operate the new large crane safely and efficiently - a matter of course for Liebherr.

After its arrival in Japan, the nine-axle crane will be by far the largest crane in the Yamagata fleet. The second-largest is a Liebherr LTM 1250 6.1. The 250-tonner was delivered in the middle of this year and will primarily be used as an auxiliary crane for the LTM 11200-9.1. In addition the company's fleet includes four mobile cranes and eight rough terrain cranes. These are primarily used for port handling work.

The LTR 11200 telescopic crawler crane

The success of the LTM 11200-9.1 is supplemented by the delivery of 16 LTR 11200 telescopic crawler cranes. Liebherr developed a new crane concept using the superstructure from the LTM 11200-9.1 and a newly designed narrow track crawler chassis specially for the wind power industry in 2009. The LTR 11200 can travel along narrow roads when fully equipped which makes it particularly economical for use in wind farms. Fifteen LTR 11200 telescopic crawler cranes are in use around the world. Another superstructure is mounted on a self-propelled jack-up barge and is used to carry out maintenance work on offshore wind turbines.
