Representative for the Liebherr family, Sophie Albrecht thanked African Mining Services (AMS) for their trust and their good relations for more than 20 years. She awarded the crystal trophy to Darren Wheadon and Chris Lutt. Also present were Michael Fall and Yves Mermet from Liebherr-Ghana Ltd. and Dr. Joerg Lukowski and Jerome Schillinger from Liebherr-Mining Equipment Colmar SAS.

The partnership between Liebherr-Mining Equipment SAS and its customer AMS began with the contract award of Damang gold mine in the 1990s. AMS started this project with four R 984. The performance and quality of those units as well as the local support of Liebherr-Ghana Ltd. permitted AMS to win other projects. Today, AMS is operating a fleet of Liebherr mining equipment in four African countries being Ghana, Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso. In total, almost 40 mining machinery have been delivered to AMS: mainly R 984 C, R 9250 and R 994 mining excavators loading 100T trucks.

In September 2016, AMS was awarded a contract mining project in Senegal: the Mako Gold project. For this project, AMS again cooperates with Liebherr. The company has selected the new Liebherr mining excavator R 9150 that allows them to load a 100T truck with a 12 percent higher production compared to the R 984 C. The support of the three R 9150 will be performed by Premium Senegal which is the Liebherr local dealer in French-speaking West African countries.
