The combustion engine – ready for conventional and alternative fuels. Whether diesel, HVO or hydrogen: Liebherr takes a technology-open approach to provide customers and partners with the optimum solution for their construction site.

Liebherr's Components product segment presents the first prototypes of hydrogen combustion engines, the H964 and the H966, at this year's Bauma. The 6-cylinder prototype of the H966 hydrogen engine is the heart of Liebherr's first hydrogen-powered crawler excavator R 9XX H2.

Liebherr is currently developing hydrogen injection systems as well as hydrogen combustion engines, which are to go into series production from 2025.

The internal combustion engine has been powering a wide variety of applications since the 19th century. The technology is particularly suitable for industries with harsh operating conditions, such as earthmoving, construction or mining.

Modern Liebherr engines such as the D976 can burn both diesel and HVO. When running on HVO, CO2 emissions can be reduced by up to 90 percent.

At the components booth in Hall A4 Stand 326, more than 20 exhibits from Liebherr’s components portfolio are on show – including combustion engines, hydraulic cylinder, camera systems and gateways or digital solutions.
