The L 522 was the first wheel loader in the world with a plastic cladding
In 1992, Liebherr presented a completely new model of wheel loader at BAUMA, the L 522. With this new model, Liebherr design engineers were able to achieve a visual and technical milestone. The L 522 was the first wheel loader in the world to have plastic cladding. While it raised a few eyebrows at the time, even the competitors couldn't imagine a world without it just three years later.
However, its drive concept also made the L 522 a pioneer. In 1992, the L 522 was fitted with two oil engines as a technical extension of the hydrostatic drive concept in order to be able to drive the heavier units more quickly. This allowed the speed range to be increased without the need for a gearbox. The result: the L 522 was the first wheel loader which accelerated without interrupting the tractive force.
