The NSW infrastructure boom is well underway with an unprecedented amount of projects on the move providing many job opportunities and improvements in various locations across the state. One such project is Northconnex, a 9km tunnel at a depth down to 90 meters linking the M2 to the M1 by 2019, at a cost of $2.65 billion, which will take around 5000 trucks per day off Pennant Hills Road making daily commutes faster and safer.

The Northconnex project has been taken on as a joint venture, and these JV partners have invested heavily in plant equipment to ensure that all works are completed on schedule. One supplier of this equipment is Liebherr-Australia, where the R 950 tunnel excavator has made its debut into the Australian tunnel industry. This new, built for purpose, 43-45t tunnel unit has been received well globally, boasting not only the world’s most highly regarded powertrain but also bringing with it an array of options to suit customers’ specific applications. The R 950 has a powerful 190kw Liebherr Tier 4 final emissions engine, and the world’s most refined hydraulic system producing a reliable, efficient, and powerful unit capable of handling the harshest of conditions.
