Intelligent crane control with LICCON
Liebherr mobile cranes are controlled precisely using intelligent technology. The LICCON computer system is at the heart of all this. Liebherr designs and produces the software and hardware for the mobile crane control in-house. Our specialists continue to work on the development of the control's architecture to meet the ever growing demands of the market.
Flexible control system from a single source
LICCON (Liebherr computer control) is the most modern computer system in the world for controlling and monitoring mobile cranes. All the key components, including the software, has been developed by Liebherr in-house. This enables us to guarantee reliability, quality and future spare parts availability.
The crane control with integral LML load moment limiter meets the very highest safety standards. The electronic control system is tailored individually to each crane. Its freely programmable nature means that it can be adjusted flexibly to suit individual requirements. Particularly important in practice use: The Liebherr crane control is insensitive to ambient influences such as extreme temperatures.
Liebherr developed the first computer-based crane control in 1989 – a genuine milestone in the industry. In 2007 the LICCON2 successor system was launched, featuring much higher computing capacity and additional applications. Another reason behind Liebherr's success is its reliable data bus transmission equipment which revolutionised crane technology at the end of the 1990s.
User-friendly functions and benefits
LICCON allows the working range limits to be monitored automatically.
Benefits of the working range limiting system
- Working range limits can be defined simply at the touch of a button.
- The programmed limits can be enabled and disabled easily.
- The operating movements are stopped with damping.
Functions at a glance
The system allows the following functions to be used singly or in combination:
- Pulley head height limit
- Radius limit
- Slewing angle limit
- Edge limit
The LICCON work planner is a software package for planning, simulating and documenting crane jobs on a PC and in the crane cabine.
Benefits of the work planner
- All the lifting capacity tables for a crane are shown.
- After entering the lifting case parameters of load, radius and hoist height, the planner suggests the best cranes for the job.
- Drawing functions and support force display allow crane jobs to be simulated realistically.
The BTT Bluetooth terminal is a multi-functional control and display unit for the remote control of crane set-up functions.
Benefits of the Bluetooth terminal
- Fast, easy and safe to use
- Clear visibility and proximity to the operation
- Greater comfort
- Increase in efficiency
Functions at a glance
The BTT enables a mobile crane's outriggers to be extended safely and easily. Engine start/stop and engine speed control, electronic inclination display and automatic support levelling are included as standard. If necessary the support forces can also be displayed on the BTT.
Attach and detach hook block
The BTT also enables the crane driver to attach and detach the hook block with visual contact. For this purpose the hoist winch and luffing cylinder for the telescopic boom are controlled remotely.
Depending on the crane model and equipment, the BTT can control other functions such as the folding jib or ballast erection.
The Liebherr LICCON2 crane control system also provides the possibility of an easy and low cost extension to the complete radio remote control of the crane. In addition to the software, only a console with the two master switches is required. The existing BTT is plugged to this. This means that all crane movements can be controlled from outside the crane cabine.
Benefits of remote control
- Greater economy
- A clear sight and proximity to the load
- Prevention of communication errors between the crane driver and site personnel
