Press releases | 06/19/2020 The first ever LTM 1110-5.1 goes to Spain – Grúas Roxu takes delivery of new Liebherr 110 tonne crane

  • 110 tonne mobile crane with 60 metre telescopic boom
  • 10 tonne axle load version makes obtaining licences and route permits easier
  • Roxu Group currently has 100 Liebherr mobile and crawler cranes in its fleet

Spanish crane and heavy haulage contractor Grúas Roxu took delivery of the first ever Liebherr LTM 1110-5.1 mobile crane in May. Liebherr unveiled a prototype of its new crane model at the Bauma 2019 in Munich. The concept and performance data impressed Grúas Roxu so much that the company signed an order for two LTM 1110-5.1 cranes before leaving the trade show.

José Manuel Garcia, President of the Roxu Group, explained: “I was impressed by the concept of the new crane as soon as I saw it, because its combination of mobility, lifting capacity and boom length is perfect. These features are extremely important decision-making criteria for our company.”

The new LTM 1110-5.1 achieves axle loads of 12 tonnes with 13.4 tonnes of ballast, but can also be driven with a maximum axle load of 10 tonnes. This version delivers major benefits for obtaining licences and route permits. Even with its maximum ballast of 29 tonnes, its axle load remains below 16 tonnes. A quick-change system for the ballast slabs ensures maximum flexibility for changing the crane’s set-up.

Although the new LTM 1110-5.1 is such a lightweight construction that its gross weight is just 48 tonnes, its 60 metre telescopic boom enables it to exceed the performance of similar mobile cranes on the market. The boom is one of the longest in its crane class. VarioBase®Plus, a combination of trapezoidal and variable support base, generates additional capacity. With the widened rear outrigger base, it delivers particularly high lifting capacities.

“We are convinced that the LTM 1110-5.1 will quickly become established as a technical benchmark in its segment. At Grúas Roxu, we always try to purchase the best machine on the market for every different type of job. We will therefore gradually be replacing the other 5-axle mobile cranes in our fleet with the new LTM 1110-5.1”, adds Garcia.

The delivery of the LTM 1110-5.1 was a novelty from a logistics point of view and provided a challenge for Liebherr. This was because in the middle of travel restrictions and the emergency declared in Spain due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a way had to be found to deliver the crane promptly and get over all the logistical problems.

Grúas Roxu

Grúas Roxu was founded in Asturias in 1979. Its head office is in Meres, from where the company plans its work in Spain and throughout Europe. The Roxu Group has also had an outlet in Costa Rica since 2013 with 27 mobile cranes, all of which were supplied by Liebherr. Its jobs in Latin America are coordinated from there. The company has references from international jobs completed in France, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Costa Rica, Uruguay and Chile.

In the company’s 41-year history, Roxu has established itself in particular in providing industrial assembly, transport, wind power and infrastructure services. Roxu Group currently has exactly 100 Liebherr mobile and crawler cranes in its fleet with a wide range of different models. The company’s flagships are two 1,200 tonne cranes – an LTM 11200-9.1 and an LTR 11200 as well as two Liebherr LR 1600/2 crawler cranes. Roxu has been placing its trust in Liebherr’s quality and service since the 80s: “Not only does Liebherr deliver innovative, reliable cranes, but also provides competent advice and above all fast, effective after-sales service, which is of fundamental importance for our international activities,” says José Manuel Garcia.
