Press releases | 11/13/2017 New 500-tonne crane in action with Steil

  • Steil Kranarbeiten takes delivery of Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane
  • Liebherr 500-tonne crane features excellent mobility, modern upgrades and a long telescopic boom
  • Renowned crane model since 20 years up to date due to technological upgrades

Steil Kranarbeiten based in Trier has taken delivery of a new Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane. Outstanding mobility, an 84-metre telescopic boom and continuous improvements made to the renowned crane model were the main reasons behind the purchase decision. For its first job, the new Liebherr 500-tonne crane worked with another LTM 1500-8.1 from Steil to complete a tandem hoist of a 185 tonne gas turbine in Luxembourg.

Its investment in a new LTM 1500-8.1 sees Steil Kranarbeiten placing its trust in a time-tested yet modern mobile crane – Liebherr first unveiled the 500-tonne crane at the Bauma in Munich as long ago as 1998. Stephan Fleischmann, Marketing Manager at Steil comments: "The crane's design is mature. At the same time, however, Liebherr is continuously adding technological improvements and upgrades to it to ensure it remains up to date." Steil has already had plenty of positive experience with this crane model as the new 500-tonne crane will replace an existing LTM 1500-8.1 in the company's fleet. In fact, Steil has had a Liebherr 500-tonne crane in its fleet for ten years.

"One of the major positives of the Liebherr crane is its good mobility on the road and on site. We ordered the 500-tonne model with the "removable telescopic boom" option. Thanks to its resulting low axle loads, permits for travelling on roads can be easily obtained. We will primarily be using the LTM 1500-8.1 in industry, but also for repowering in the wind industry", says Fleischmann. Another point for Steil which led to the purchase was the 84-metre telescopic boom. Steil ordered it in addition to the 50-metre version. "The 3.5 metre section for the luffing jib was another important criterion for us. That enables us to achieve excellent lifting capacity values for intermediate lengths", explains Fleischmann.

Steil is a modern, forward-looking company and as such attaches great value to having a reliable, innovative fleet. Its current fleet numbers over 100 cranes, with none of them more than ten years old. The company's main activities include regional crane work, jobs in industry and wind power as well as recovery, towing and heavy haulage.
