138 applications in total started on 5 September 2018 to compete for the Bauma Innovation Award. 47 innovations persuaded in the preselection, from which an expert jury of representatives of science and economy chose respectively three nominates for the award in one of the five categories machine, components/digital systems, building structure/building methods/building processes, science/research and design. The operating concept INTUSI developed by Liebherr in cooperation with the Technical University Dresden persuaded finally in the category Design.

A new era of machine communication with INTUSI

In the course of digitalization the construction site changes more and more to a networked, logistical ecological system, in which operator and machine as well as different machines amongst each other are exchanging information. At the same time there is a change from only controlling the machine to a real communication between operator and machine. Operator assistance systems as well as functionalities from the networked world of construction site 4.0 gain beyond that more and more in importance.

For Liebherr these elements are the driving forces of the INTUSI development process and the company starts with this operating concept in a new era of machine communication. INTUSI, the INTuitive USer Interface by Liebherr connects construction machinery and material handlers to the Internet of Things (IoT) and is combining intelligent logic with clever machine intelligence. Going forward this operating concept will be used in all Liebherr earthmoving machines and material handlers.

The Bauma Innovation Award

On the occasion of Bauma, taking place every three years in Munich, industry association “VDMA”, fair organizer “Messe München” and the umbrella organization of the German construction industry tender recurrently the Bauma Innovation Award. With this award the work of science- and development teams of enterprises and universities is appreciated, who develop to market maturity practicable cutting-edge technology for construction-, building materials-, and mining industry and respect at the same time resources, environment and mankind. Paramount are future-oriented innovations with high practical benefit, contributing to energy- and resources efficiency and/or to ergonomic working conditions as well as new digital system products. This year the prize was awarded for the 12th time.
