Press releases | 03/17/2015 Liebherr to Supply Prototype Fresh Air Control System for Flexity Tram at Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe

The company will equip a three-section vehicle of the type Flexity with the prototype of an occupancy-dependent fresh air control system and test the technology over a period of one year. The innovative system enables the fresh air intake into the passenger compartment to be regulated according to the occupancy level, i.e. the number of passengers on board the vehicle. The occupancy level is measured by CO2 sensors.

Previously, Liebherr had mathematically verified the efficiency of the technology. The occupancy-dependent fresh air control system can reduce the energy consumption of the air conditioning systems in the vehicle by up to 13%. If the tests are successful, BVG will have the option of ordering further units for retrofitting in the entire fleet.

The order from BVG underlines the competence of Liebherr-Transportation Systems when it comes to optimizing the energy consumption of vehicles already in operation.
