Significantly rising electricity costs in the public transport sector are a challenge for both, the operators as well as the rail transport vehicle manufacturers. In order to provide a solution, Liebherr-Transportation Systems, train manufacturer Alstom and operator Hamburger Hochbahn have jointly developed a program to make Liebherr’s existing advanced heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems for the DT5 fleet even more energy efficient.
New software and hardware measures are to be installed in the DT5 trains within the next months. The data collected during the heating and cooling period will be analyzed to determine the economic and technical benefits for Hamburger Hochbahn in terms of riding comfort for the passengers and energy savings at the same time.
"We are very happy to have been awarded this contract by Alstom and Hamburger Hochbahn," said Roland Friedrich, Deputy General Manager Liebherr-Transportation Systems Mannheim. "This order is proof of a long-standing partnership with our customers, the innovative strength and the shared responsibility of the transport sector to work on solutions for green mobility."
