The new generation of Liebherr Wheel Loaders will be presented at the 2014 World of Concrete show in Las Vegas (USA). The L 556 model on display belongs to the large-size range of Liebherr wheel loaders and complies with Tier 4i / stage IIIB emission standards. These new-generation machines have an optimized tipping load that further improves productivity and stability.
The L 556 with Z-bar linkage for standard operations on display achieves a tipping load of 29,870 lb (13,550 kg) at an operating weight of 39,460 lb (17,900 kg). The machine is equipped with a 4.7 yd3 (3.6 m³) bucket and is driven by a 188 HP (l) / 140 kW Liebherr 4-cylinder diesel engine.
The engine compartment on the L 556 has been redesigned so that the diesel engine is installed transversely, which is a unique configuration in this class. This gives the machine an even more compact layout, and makes all of the principal maintenance points accessible from ground level. The panoramic windshield makes for excellent all-round visibility.
Innovations for greater productivity on the new large wheel loaders
For the Tier 4i / stage IIIB generation, Liebherr continues to use hydrostatic drive concept together with the Liebherr Power Efficiency (LPE). This is an electronic control system that increases the machine’s handling power and keeps fuel consumption to a minimum.
The new-generation diesel engines are now even more environmentally friendly, with many other improvements, too: precision common-rail fuel injection optimizes the combustion process and reduces CO2 emissions. Exhaust emission control is by means of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter combined with a diesel particulate filter. In most situations, this filter can be actively regenerated by burning off deposits during operation of the machine, and the task in hand continued without interruption.

At InnoTrans 2026, Liebherr will unveil its new railroad excavator for the first time: the RE 22 M Litronic. This model expands the existing range to include a machine in the 22-tonne class with hydrostatic rail-wheel drive and is the successor to the A 922 Rail and A 924 Rail. The machine combines tried-and-tested components from the A 922 Rail with a newly developed undercarriage and a new operator's cab.

Liebherr – a reliable partner at InnoTrans 2026
At InnoTrans running in Berlin (Germany) from September 22 to 25 2026, Liebherr is presenting solutions from the transportation systems and rail-road excavators product areas. The Group will be displaying its exhibits at booth O/170 in the outdoor area. The Group’s appearance at the exhibition is focused not only on products, but also on topics such as partnership and its joint efforts with customers to actively shape the future.

From dust to top performance: Liebherr impresses at the České Štěrkopísky gravel plant
Dust, demanding operating conditions and extreme material loads: at the sand and gravel pit near Velká Černoc, Liebherr wheel loaders and mining trucks are demonstrating their full capabilities. Abrasive sand, uneven tracks and demanding multi-shift operation place the highest demands on both man and machine. It is not just performance that is crucial here – above all, robustness, reliability and efficient coordination between all machines are essential.
