A new heavyweight enters the stage: The BOS 45000 of Liebherr sets course for South Korea’s offshore wind horizon. With cutting-edge vessel engineering and a lifting capacity of up to 1,200 tonnes at a maximum reach of 22 metres, the crane is purpose-built for demanding offshore wind campaigns. Installed on the jack-up barge VEGA, it will deliver the power and precision required for large component installation, maintenance scopes and life-extension work across Asian projects.

Proven technology for offshore projects
The BOS series covers a broad spectrum of sizes, providing operators with the right tool for routine supply work through complex installation and maintenance tasks. Each model carries Liebherr’s hallmark architecture: an A-frame with a lattice boom, wide walkways for safe access, and clear routing to all service points. The boom geometry enables long outreach with steady, accurate load handling, while the A-frame supports smooth luffing and integrates key service functions. Fast auxiliary hoists speed up everyday lifts and lighter duties.

Since the first BOS entered service in 1975, more than 500 units have supported offshore work in some of the world’s most demanding environments, earning a reputation for reliability, serviceability, and long service life. The series has advanced continuously over five decades, adding smarter controls, refined ergonomics and enhanced operating features while preserving the robust A-frame, lattice boom and safe access that operators value.
Service excellence supporting operational success
Liebherr and Eunsung O&C have an established relationship. Most recently, a Liebherr Transform project in Suncheon, South Korea, extended the boom of an Eunsung O&C BOS 14000 by 24 metres to a total length of 84 metres. The modification was delivered in five weeks, ahead of schedule, by an international team of Liebherr service engineers from Hong Kong, Austria and Germany. The result equips the crane for future offshore operations and demonstrates coordinated execution, engineering depth and customer trust in the service of Liebherr.
Customers benefit from a global service network with trained technical advisers and experienced service engineers in more than fifty subsidiaries. The teams provide inspections, tailored maintenance programmes and training on site and at Liebherr centres. Remote support and customised solutions help operators sustain high availability and long-term productivity for maritime equipment. This structure enables short response times and consistent support across regions.
For the VEGA project, Liebherr South Korea will support installation, commissioning & testing (ICT) and will take care of ongoing service for the crane in South Korea, backed by the global Liebherr network. ‘As the project moves forward, our focus in South Korea will be to ensure a smooth ICT process and to provide comprehensive lifecycle support. The recent boom extension for Eunsung O&C demonstrated how effectively our international teams can work together under tight schedules. The crane construction of the VEGA project is scheduled to take place from summer 2026 to 2028, after which installation and integration on the VEGA platform are planned to be completed by middle of 2029, with commissioning and entry into service expected in 2029.
