A confident upgrade that raises the ceiling. With the introduction of the CBG 310, Liebherr Maritime Cranes advances high-performance transshipment through a measured evolution of its four-rope grab crane portfolio. Developed as the direct successor to the CBG 300, the new model reaches a maximum hoisting speed of 130 metres per minute, representing an increase of 44 per cent and enabling faster handling cycles with reduced vessel turnaround times. Its lifting capacity rises to up to 45 tonnes on hook, while a standard boom length of 30 metres ensures continuity for floating applications, with an extended outreach of up to 32 metres available for land-based installations. Operator conditions have also been improved, with an enlarged cabin volume of 7 cubic metres enhancing comfort and visibility during extended shifts. At the same time, the transition from hydraulic hoses to integrated piping within the slewing column reduces maintenance exposure and supports lower lifecycle costs. All of these features deliver a balanced improvement in performance, efficiency and operational reliability.
A decisive step up for transshipment
For operators running CBG 300 cranes, the transition to the CBG 310 represents a natural and performance-driven progression. Rocktree, a global transshipment and logistics provider that optimises the movement of dry bulk commodities, decided to replace its two CBG 300 cranes after eleven years of continuous service, which demonstrates the tangible benefits of the new generation. By maintaining the vessel’s eccentric-arm configuration, the upgrade to the CBG 310 preserves proven geometry while enabling higher throughput and improved responsiveness in daily operations. The project also marks a significant milestone, with Rocktree becoming the first operator to install CBG 310 cranes on eccentric-arms, reflecting the company's pioneering approach to advancing transshipment solutions through proven yet forward-looking technology.

Beyond structural enhancements, the CBG 310 introduces an expanded digital layer that supports a more controlled and intuitive operating experience. At its core is Liebherr’s Litronic control system, enabling precise and consistent crane movements even under challenging transshipment conditions. During operation, SmartGrip supports the handling process by automatically adjusting grab behaviour in real time, helping operators achieve optimal filling while reducing material loss. In parallel, LiCAS, the Liebherr Collision Alert System, enhances operational safety by continuously monitoring distances to nearby Liebherr cranes and warning operators of potentially unsafe conditions. This provides an additional layer of awareness during complex cargo handling scenarios and supports safer crane coordination in confined environments. Together, these systems operate seamlessly in the background, reinforcing efficiency and control without increasing complexity.
