The crane and heavy haulage contractor Dietmar Floßdorf GmbH & Co. KG from Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler is expanding its crane fleet significantly with two new acquisitions from Liebherr: an LTM 1750-9.1 mobile crane is now Floßdorf’s most powerful lifting device. An LTR 1150 from Liebherr was also put into service at the same time as the crane fleet’s new flagship. The telescopic crawler crane will accompany the big crane on construction sites in the wind power sector as a setup and assistance crane.
Dietmar Floßdorf GmbH & Co. KG will in future be dispatching two brand-new machines from the Liebherr plant in Ehingen as a crane duo to wind farms and other construction sites. An LTM 1750-9.1 is expanding the company’s options in terms of load capacities and lifting heights. “We purchased the LTM 1750-9.1 to significantly expand our deployment options in the heavy-duty and major assembly sectors, especially in relation to wind power”, says Marco Floßdorf, the company’s authorised signatory, explaining the purpose behind the new acquisition. “Its high load capacity combined with good mobility allows us to install large hub heights and heavy components even more efficiently. We purchased the mobile crane with all of the equipment. This means that we’re able to ensure maximum flexibility and utilisation in a variety of sectors. This crane will strengthen us in many different ways.”
The second new acquisition, an LTR 1150 telescopic crawler crane, will offer even greater flexibility. It will primarily accompany the LTM 1750-9.1 on work on wind farms. With its crawler carrier and the ability to move with load on the hook, the 150-tonne crane is extremely practical on construction sites. It can carry out setup work on the large crane as well as handle system components in its role as auxiliary crane. “For us, the LTR 1150 offers the ideal combination of high load capacity, rapid setup time and exceptional terrain capability”, explains Floßdorf. “The telescopic boom makes the setup work so much faster and simpler. And since the machine is optimised for transport, the LTR 1150 represents the perfect add-on for combined use with the LTM 1750-9.1.”
Even with the first setup of the large crane for the erection of a small wind farm near Alsfeld in Hesse, the LTR 1150 was able to fully show off its features since there was only limited space available on site. The LTM 1750-9.1’s luffing jib, which spans over 30 metres, had to be installed in some parts over arable land that was inaccessible. For the crawler crane with its 52-metre telescopic boom, however, this was not a problem. The LTR 1150 rolled with the lattice boom components on its hook to the edge of the construction site and, from there, had sufficient reach to mount the jib.
“Our new telescopic crawler crane combines a lot of advantages in one machine”, says Marco Floßdorf. “No additional dismantling is needed for a rapid site change on wind farms. And it is superb for preparatory and ancillary work on major construction projects. Moreover, the LTR 1150 isn't just highly mobile, but it’s also really powerful. Both of the new additions to our crane fleet, which now comprises more than 20, will expand more than just our capacities. They mean we’ll also be able to implement safer and more efficient processes for our customers.”
The two new machines from the Liebherr plant in Ehingen are for now destined solely for the construction of wind farms. The some 70-strong team at Floßdorf has access to a modern fleet of cranes for other services in the heavy duty and specialist transport sector, as well as major construction projects, in addition to 23 transport vehicles.
