Liebherr-Transportation Systems has received a follow-up order for the delivery of a further 20 hydraulic bogie coupling systems for the three-axle Prima H3 hybrid shunting locomotive. Installation of the systems is set to begin in August 2019 and shall be completed within a year. Liebherr had supplied the first bogie coupling system for the Prima H3 back in 2014. More followed two years later.
With the hydraulic system developed jointly by Alstom and Liebherr, the three axles of the locomotive are coupled in such a way that, when rounding curves, the two outer axles turn out radially, i.e. towards the virtual mid-point of the curve, while the middle axle is shifted sideways. This reduces wear on wheels and tracks and decreases noise emissions to a minimum. The Prima H3 hybrid locomotive from Alstom can therefore be used for particularly heavy shunting operations, thanks to Liebherr’s technology.
This application once again demonstrates the advantages and efficiency of hydraulic systems made by Liebherr.
