Enercon expands crane fleet with Liebherr LR 11000 crawler crane

Equipped with the SL12 boom system, which was specifically developed for wind power applications, the LR 11000 achieves lifting heights of up to 190 metres. This makes the crane particularly suitable for the installation of modern wind turbines with large rotor diameters and high hub heights. “By investing in modern installation equipment, we are increasing our independence from external crane availability and enhancing our flexibility as a provider of solutions for the renewable energy ecosystem,” says Hendrik Peterburs, Vice President Enercon Global Logistics.

The new crawler crane was delivered in summer 2026 and is currently operating at the Kakerbeck wind farm in eastern Germany. There, it is supporting the installation of several Enercon E-160 EP5 wind turbines. In the future, the LR 11000 will primarily be used for the installation of the new E-175 EP5 E2 turbine, featuring a rotor diameter of 175 metres, a rated output of 7.0 MW and hub heights of up to 175 metres.

In addition to its performance, the LR 11000 is characterised by outstanding cost-efficiency in operation. Liebherr has continuously optimised the assembly and dismantling processes, enabling efficient erection and dismantling on site. As a result, the heavy-duty crane can be quickly relocated within a wind farm once installation work has been completed.

With the LR 11000, Liebherr offers a powerful solution for the growing demands of the onshore wind energy market and supports its customers in the efficient execution of challenging projects. The 1,000-tonne crawler crane features an economical transport concept and is designed for a transport width of 3.5 metres.
