Mumbai goes metro

In India's metropolis, Mumbai, a new metro line is currently under construction. It is aimed to improve traffic and rail congestion of the city. In this giant project, the Robbins Company has been entrusted with parts of the tunnel boring work. To do the job, Robbins relies once again on Liebherr's proven main bearings.

Starting in June 2018, the twin Robbins Crossover TBMs bore in parallel 2.8 km (1.7 mi) long tunnels. The twin 6.65 m (21.8 ft) machines combine features of a hard rock Single Shield TBM and an Earth Pressure Balance Machine and are ideal for application in mixed geology.

New cooperation in power generation

The Liebherr Components Division and Cummins Inc. start a cooperation in power generation. For the new Cummins C25G gas generator series, Liebherr will provide fully equipped gas engines, which comprise ignition and control systems for natural gas and biogas applications in 50Hz and 60Hz markets. The G9512, a 12-cylinder gas engine with 25 litres displacement, is the heart of the new Cummins C25G gas generator series.

Liebherr’s new energy storage technology

Liebherr has specifically designed a new Liduro Energy Storage system LES 300 for highly dynamic industrial applications with high peak loads and variable power requirements. It helps to achieve considerable cost savings and a significant increase in efficiency.

In lifting and lowering applications in industry, transport, logistics (elevators, hoists, conveyors) and generally in drive and control systems (process and manufacturing technology), energy costs can be reduced by 20-40% through the storage and efficient use of recuperative energy.

Injection solutions for on- and off-highway applications: new strategic partnership

Liebherr Components and Stanadyne LLC, US manufacturer of components for diesel common rail systems, enter a strategic partnership for the global development and production of joint injection solutions for on- and off-highway applications.

The cooperation enables both partners to enlarge their range of medium- and heavy-duty applications within the commercial vehicle market. At the same time, both companies will offer even more flexibility with regard to individual engine designs.

Hydraulic cylinders for material handling machines

The Belgian company E-Crane has chosen Liebherr’s modified pressure and pull cylinders from the 380 bar series-production range for its material handling equipment. In it, two hydraulic cylinders per unit will be responsible for the movement of the boom.

For the movement of both boom and stick, the E-Crane material handlers have installed two identical hydraulic cylinders.

A prototype has been successfully field-tested for a longer period of time. As of now, newly built material handlers added to the 400 unit fleet will be equipped with Liebherr hydraulic cylinders.

HARRI drives into the future – with our IoT gateway

For over four decades, the Bertrandt Group has developed solutions for the automotive and aviation sectors, mechanical and plant engineering, electricity and energy industries, as well as the medical technology. Now our international engineering partner places his trust in communication solutions by Liebherr Components.

The IoT gateway from Liebherr, the Mobile Communication Gateway (MCG), is deployed in HARRI, Bertrandt’s platform for future mobility concepts. The IoT gateway connects the data sources in the vehicle, reads the information via CAN and Ethernet interfaces and preprocesses it, ensuring that the data is optimized before being transferred into the cloud.

Palette handling system at Liebherr - impressively large and extremely flexible

Liebherr develops and manufactures high quality drive units and rope winches at its site in Biberach (Germany). The components find their use not only in various industrial applications, but also in giant equipment, such as onshore and offshore wind turbines, tunnel drilling or earthmoving machines.

With the new pallet handling system, Liebherr has achieved a new level of flexibility and performance. The system is linked to two turning and milling centres and enables the production team to cover an even wider product range - from batch size 1 to even larger sizes - to produce around-the-clock, partly even without an operator.

Annual Report 2019

With a turnover of more than 11 billion euros, 2019 was a successful year for the Liebherr Group.

Our Components Division has performed very well and once again reported sales growth throughout 2019. We have continuously developed our diesel engines and injection systems in recent years and are now offering new models. In addition, we are working on the development of even lighter components. For example, a cylinder partially made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) has laid solid foundations for our research. We are now field testing the first prototypes and are very proud of our efforts.
