  • Generation 8: crawler excavators proven worldwide
  • New options and assistance systems on the Generation 8
  • The R 924 and R 945 showcased at Conexpo 2026

At Conexpo 2026, Liebherr reaffirms its commitment to innovation, reliability, and customer-focused development by showcasing the latest advancements of its Generation 8 crawler excavators. Designed for demanding earthmoving applications worldwide, these machines combine forward-looking engineering with practical solutions that enhance efficiency, operator comfort, and long-term durability.

Las Vegas, NV (USA), March 3, 2026 – This year’s presence in Las Vegas highlights not only Liebherr‘s dedication to pushing the boundaries of machine performance, but also the Group’s broader vision for the North American market. As construction becomes more connected, more automated and more safety-oriented, Liebherr continues to invest in machines and digital solutions that enable customers to work smarter, safer, and more sustainable. The result is a product family that delivers measurable value on the jobsite while laying the foundations for the next era of intelligent earthmoving technology.

Generation 8: Tried and tested, and future-proof crawler excavators

The Liebherr Generation 8 crawler excavators for earthmoving were introduced to the global market in 2019. They have a futuristic design and a completely redesigned architecture in order to improve convenience, safety ergonomics, and performance. From the R 922 to the R 945, the Generation 8 range combines outstanding performance with reduced fuel consumption, supported by a comfortable operator environment, and simplified, safe maintenance access. Proven in diverse applications worldwide, this generation continues to evolve, driven by Liebherr’s commitment to providing customers with the highest possible performance and long-term reliability.

Liebherr boosts Generation 8 excavators with new efficiency and safety technologies

Liebherr has expanded the capabilities of its Generation 8 crawler excavators with a suite of technologies designed to improve efficiency, precision, and on-site safety. The standard LPE (Liebherr Power Efficiency) mode now optimizes hydraulic and engine performance to fuel consumption by up to 10 percent, while a unique ground-level diesel exhaust fluid filling pump streamlines refueling and eliminates contamination risks.

The integrated Leica 2D guidance system offers intuitive, high-precision control and can be upgraded to 3D-ready configurations for more demanding applications. To enhance productivity, the Bucket Fill Assist automates fast, consistent bucket loading, complemented by a real-time weighing system with more or less 2 percent accuracy and full traceability via Liebherr Connect – both available with 500 hours of free trial use. Completing the package, the Skyview 360°system provides an all-round heated camera view for reliable obstacle detection, significantly improving safety in confined or busy job sites.

The R 924 and R 945 on the Liebherr booth

At Conexpo 2026, Liebherr will present two of its most advanced Generation 8 crawler excavators, each configured to deliver optimal performance for demanding earthmoving applications. The R 924 G8 on display features a 94 in (2.390 mm) undercarriage, 31,50 in (800 mm) track pads, a 5.51 US-t (5 tonnes) counterweight, a 18.70 ft (5.70 m) mono boom, and a 9.51 ft (2.90 m) stick. Powered by a Tier 4 Final engine delivering 129 kW / 175 HP, the machine weighs approximately 27.56 US-t (25 tonnes), combining agility, stability, and efficiency. The larger R 945 G8 is equipped with a 114 in (2.900 mm) undercarriage, 29,53 in (750 mm) track pads, a 10.36 US-t (9.4 tonnes) counterweight, a 21.16 ft (6.45 m) mono boom, and a 11.48 ft (3.25 m) stick. Its Tier 4 Final engine provides 220 kW / 299 HP, supporting an operating weight of around 49.60 US-t (45 tonnes). Together, these two models embody Liebherr’s approach to robust design, high productivity and advanced technology for the modern jobsite.
