Family values and technical excellence come together at Whitnell Plant Hire & Earth Moving Contractors, where father and son, Lionel and Matt Whitnell, continue a long-standing tradition of practical earthmoving expertise. Over decades in the industry, Lionel has built a reputation for competence and commitment – knowledge he now passes directly to Matt as they run the business together. Whitnell Plant Hire & Earth Moving Contractors remains a champion of traditional earthmoving practices and invests in state-of-the-art equipment and technology, enabling the company to offer a complete range of services for any project throughout the UK and Europe.

In early 2021, the Whitnells were looking for a new dozer to complement their fleet. As a small family business, every investment must deliver value. The machine needed to handle a wide range of tasks, from fine grading to heavy pushing, while remaining comfortable for long working days on site. Test runs were arranged between Liebherr and another leading brand, with careful evaluation of fuel consumption, performance and operator comfort. After the tests, the Liebherr PR 736 G8 proved to be the preferred choice. "The tests gave us a clear understanding of the machine's capabilities," explained Lionel. "It offered consistent performance and overall efficiency for our requirements, supported by excellent advice from our sales representative."
Liebherr’s support is reliable and always available when needed.
About the PR 736 G8

The PR 736 G8 ordered by Whitnell Plant Hire & Earth Moving Contractors was tailored to their specific requirements. Its 4.84 m³ 6-way PAT blade features folding corners to reduce transport width, while LGP undercarriage reduces ground pressure to just 6.1 psi – ideal for soft ground. A 5-shank rear ripper increases versatility, and additional LED lighting plus a 360° camera system ensure safe and efficient operation. Powered by a 7-litre diesel engine with 238 HP, the hydrostatic transmission automatically adjusts speed and tractive force, delivering smooth and efficient operation under various conditions. In the Generation 8 cab, the operator benefits from excellent visibility, ergonomically positioned controls and pre-wiring for Trimble or Leica GPS systems. Liebherr's operator assistance systems, including active blade stabilization and active blade positioning, support precise grading with minimal effort.

The PR 736 G8 made its debut near Ipswich on a soil remediation project for the Sirius Group, where Matt spread cut and fill material across a 50-meter-wide area to exact elevations for subsequent compaction. "The machine moved the material evenly and consistently, allowing us to achieve a precise finish efficiently," he said. Initial servicing is supported by Liebherr, while ongoing maintenance is managed by Whitnell. "We know what's required to keep a hydrostatic dozer in top condition," noted Lionel. "Liebherr's support is reliable and always available when needed." The choice of the Liebherr PR 736 G8 reflects Whitnell Plant Hire & Earth Moving Contractors' commitment to combining traditional earthmoving expertise with modern technology.
