Optimized processes, tried-and-tested quality
Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH is restructuring its gear cutting machine portfolio along two lines: Series machines for economical, fast solutions with proven technology – and regulation machines for individual requirements. Both approaches share a common goal: to maximize customer benefit while maintaining consistently high quality.
Differentiating between the two lines makes it possible to resolve the inherent conflict between offering a full range of products and ensuring short delivery times. Machines with low variance will undergo even leaner, more automated manufacturing processes in the future, while machines with specific functionalities will continue to be individually maintained and developed.
Series machines: Efficiency through standardization
The modular design of the series machines enables consistently standardized production with highly automated processes. Customers benefit from consistently high product quality, fast availability, and globally uniform maintenance and service standards. Optimized internal processes and coordinated framework agreements with suppliers shorten throughput times and make planning more reliable. Series machines address a large proportion of market requirements – without compromising on technology. All machines will continue to be manufactured to Liebherr‘s high quality standards, while processes will be streamlined and cost structures made more competitive. Serial solutions offer a clear advantage in terms of delivery time andinvestment costs, especially where there is little variation in the application. The first of these machines will be available from 2026.
Regulation machines: Customized and technologically advanced
Regulation machines remain an essential part of the machine portfolio. They are used wherever specific requirements cannot be met by standard solutions. Close cooperation with the customer enables us to develop customized machines with functions that are precisely tailored for respective processes. These special solutions combine technological excellence with a high degree of versatility – a particular advantage for complex applications with specific requirements. The clear organizational separation of development and manufacturing processes ensures that even customized machines can be implemented with greater precision and efficiency in the future.
Two product lines, one promise of quality
In future, customers will receive two clearly defined product variants: an economical series machine with high availability or a customized machine designed to meet specific requirements with extended functionality. Head of Production Thomas Unmuth explains: “The series machines are not ‚light machines‘ or entry-level models. Both versions – either series-production or regulation machines – represent the consistently high quality of Liebherr.” All machines are manufactured at the Kempten site and shipped worldwide from there.
Cross-departmental implementation
The restructuring is the result of a company-wide initiative that extends beyond the production area to include all relevant interfaces: Sales, Technology, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, and Scheduling work closely together to consolidate processes and further reduce delivery times. “Cross-departmental, targeted cooperation within the company was a key factor in the planning and implementation of this project,” Thomas Unmuth states.
Digitalization plays a central role in this, enabling flexible control of manufacturing processes and dynamic adjustment of capacities. Liebherr is responding to current market requirements in a consistent and forward-looking manner – with clear structures, a high level of transparency, and a differentiated range of products that focuses on customer benefits and technological excellence.
