4 quick questions about IoMine with a Liebherr expert

Under the motto ‘Hands on the future’, Liebherr presents solutions for the construction and mine sites of the future at Bauma 2025. Discover more than 70 exhibits and a variety of customised solution concepts at Liebherr's 14,000 m2 booth – including IoMine, the mining product segment’s technology portfolio. We spoke to Tristan Malec, general manager of digital technology products for mining, about this extraordinary exhibit.

What is IoMine?

We decided on the name ‘IoMine’ because it highlights the connection between Liebherr’s technology products and an integrated operations approach to mining. That’s what the ‘Io’ in IoMine stands for, and it signals to our customers that we are committed to supporting them in this approach.

What are integrated operations?

Integrated operations use digital products to connect all of the disparate systems on a mine site – from the machines, the processing plants and even maintenance– so they can be monitored and managed from a central location. This means that mine managers can oversee all aspects of the activities taking place within the mine at once, rather than having to piece together information. Because of this, mining companies that adopt an integrated operations approach see increased productivity and improved safety through informed decision-making.

What are the three product families?

The three product families – Operate, Automate and Maintain – each focus on different aspects of mining activities and the ways that these can be improved. Operate products include both on- and off-board solutions that help customers to leverage data from their machines so they can find ways of optimising everyday mining activities. The Automate product family of has a range of fully and semi-autonomous solutions for mining fleets to support customers looking to introduce automation to their operations. And for customers wanting to streamline their issue resolution process, they can find a range of options within the Maintain product family.

What are the key products within IoMine?

The product that visitors to Bauma have probably heard the most about is our Autonomous Haulage Solution, or AHS. We are in the process of developing this product with Fortescue and it will make it possible for both battery-electric trucks and those with internal combustion engines to operate without a driver. There’s also our range of Assistance Systems for Liebherr’s mining machines. These products can help increase the efficiency of equipment on site through with real-time data analysis and semi-autonomous solutions. And let’s not forget our Data Services, which offer three different levels of data integration to suit a wide range of customer needs.
