The heavyweight – Czechia’s largest crane operator
The village of Radonice is half an hour’s drive from Prague city centre. The headquarters of Hanyš – Jeřábnické práce, s.r.o., a large company for crane and transport services, is also based here.
Liebherr from the very outset – the success story of Hanyš
The family-run company has been shaping the crane industry of Czechia for over 30 years. With over 130 Liebherr cranes and 60 heavy haulage vehicles, Hanyš is the undisputed market leader in the country. What once began with a single crane is now a nationwide company with over 350 employees. Founder Rostislav Hanyš has consistently built up the company since the early 1990s. We pay them a visit.

Headquarters: Radonice, the headquarters of Hanyš, is where the threads of the largest Czech crane company come together.
At the Hanyš headquarters on the outskirts of Radonice, Liebherr cranes of all sizes are lined up on some days: from the LTM 1030-2.1 to the compact LTC 1050-3.1 and the mighty LR 1750 crawler crane. Cranes are maintained, projects prepared and transport coordinated on the extensive site. The headquarters, which opened in 2010, combines administration, workshops, warehouses and storage areas – it is the company’s logistical and organisational hub. Hanyš has a dense network of branches that can respond flexibly to customer requirements throughout Czechia. In our interview, company founder and senior partner Rostislav Hanyš puts his company’s philosophy in a nutshell: “All-inone solutions from a single source.”

A tremendous life’s work: Rostislav Hanyš started out with a Liebherr crane over 30 years ago. Today, more than 130 cranes are in operation for the company. All of them from Liebherr
Mr Hanyš, you have been active in the crane services sector since 1991. How big is your company now and what do you offer?
At the beginning of the 1990s, there was a great demand for construction services here. I started with a single Liebherr crane back then. Today, we employ over 350 people and have more than 130 Liebherr cranes with lifting capacities ranging from 30 to 800 tonnes. In addition, there are over 60 special vehicles for heavy haulage. We offer a complete service: we collect loads from the customer, take care of transport, authorisation, storage and assembly – all from a single source. This complete package is something that our customers really appreciate. Today, I own the company together with my son Milan and I am still involved in its development. Even after more than 30 years.

The MK 140-5.1E mobile construction crane: “Its versatility is impressive,” says Rostislav Hanyš, senior partner of the family-run company.
Where does Hanyš operate?
We have 31 branches across the whole of Czechia. The head office in Radonice is the largest, but of course every branch is important to us – whether in Ostrava, Brno, Plzeň or smaller towns such as Tábor and Třinec. We are currently focussing on the branch in Dukovany, particularly with regard to the planned expansion of the nuclear power plant there. Our main activities are based in Czechia. But we are also active abroad, particularly in Poland, Austria, Germany and Slovakia.

“Small, agile, powerful”: No fewer than 14 LTC 1050-3.1 units are in use at Hanyš. Most of them operate in the greater Prague area. The compact crane is often indispensable for jobs in the narrow streets of the historic city centre.
How did your partnership with Liebherr begin? Which cranes are your strongest and most modern?
I got to know Liebherr at the very beginning of my entrepreneurial career. The cranes impressed me immediately with their quality, performance and service. This trust has only increased over the years. Our entire crane fleet consists exclusively of Liebherr machines. The most powerful machines are the LR 1750 and the LTM 1800, which are used for building bridges or lifting large steel structures, for example. Among the most modern are, for example, the MK 140-5.1E mobile construction crane and the LTC 1050-3.1 compact crane, which also impress with their flexibility and efficiency in city traffic.

Lucy confidently steers the most powerful model in the MK series through the streets of Prague for Hanyš.
You seem to have a lot of these compact cranes. Why are you relying on the LTC 1050-3.1?
Because this crane is small, agile and powerful. With an axle load of 12 tonnes and ballast on board, it is perfectly suited for use in densely built-up areas. It really comes into its own in Prague with its many narrow streets where space is at a premium. It reaches places that other cranes cannot. The telescoping cabin also increases safety and precision. We own 14 of this model – they are indispensable for us in daily use.
What does a typical crane job in Prague look like?
Our LTC cranes lift air conditioning systems onto roofs, place building materials or machine components in places that are difficult to access. In the old town of Prague, every centimetre counts. Of course, compactness, manoeuvrability and precision are important. Our large mobile construction crane is also of course suitable for jobs in the capital, the MK 140-5.1E.

Not just in the old town of Prague are the Hanyš compact cranes from Liebherr needed. Here you can see an LTC 1050-3.1 erecting a roof truss in the outskirts of the capital.
What type of work do you primarily use the Liebherr MK 140-4.1E for?
The MK 140-4.1E is the most powerful fast-erecting crane in its class. It is ready for use within 15 minutes and is ideal for urban and industrial projects. The machine offers an enormous reach with a compact setup. Its versatility is impressive – we are considering purchasing more cranes of this type in the future.
How is the cooperation with Liebherr in Czechia?
Our contacts are the teams at Klimex, Liebherr’s representative in Czechia. In the event of a malfunction on the construction site, customer service responds quickly, professionally and reliably. And if a repair is not possible immediately, a replacement crane is available within a very short time. This degree of support is crucial for us.
