Ordered at Bauma and delivered for the Oktoberfest: Hölzl takes over Liebherr mobile crane LTM 1150-5.3

With the LTM 1150-5.3, Hölzl now operates three 5-axle mobile cranes in its fleet. "The order situation is good. We therefore decided to add the versatile LTM 1150-5.3 to our fleet. It now sits between our 14-year-old LTM 1130-5.1 and our 220-tonne crane. We will continue to operate the LTM 1130-5.1 for the time being and observe how capacity utilisation develops," reports company owner Walter Hölzl.

Powerful taxi crane

With a maximum lifting capacity of 150 tonnes and its 66-metre telescopic boom, the LTM 1150-5.3 is a powerful mobile crane with taxi crane characteristics: With an axle load of twelve tonnes, the crane can carry nine tonnes of ballast on public roads. With this counterweight, it can complete many jobs without the need for an additional vehicle to transport the ballast. The Liebherr mobile crane is ready for action on the construction site in a matter of minutes. "That was an important criterion for us. We can also offer the LTM 1150-5.3 as a smaller crane if required. This allows us to increase the capacity utilisation of our fleet," explains Hölzl. "Another major advantage is that we can use the folding jib from our 14-year-old LTM 1130-5.1 on the new LTM 1150-5.3 without any modifications."

He plans to use the new crane for a wide range of applications, from erecting construction cranes and laying precast concrete parts to loading machinery. Walter Hölzl has come up with something special for the appearance of the new LTM 1150-5.3: The diamond pattern of the Bavarian coat of arms adorns the engine cowling. "We have a different sticker on every crane in our fleet, for example a muscle arm or a tiger's head. The Bavarian coat of arms on the new crane fits in well with Bauma and the Oktoberfest," says Hölzl.

Walter Hölzl has a long history with Liebherr - he completed his training with the crane manufacturer in 1979 and worked in the repair department for several years afterwards. The same goes for his son Benedikt, who completed his apprenticeship at Liebherr in 2014. In recent years, the Hölzl's have increasingly favoured Liebherr: "At Liebherr, crane operation is the same for all crane sizes. This allows us to deploy our drivers flexibly on different cranes. We also have the same contact person for service, regardless of the issue or problem."
