Liebherr Supplies Additional Bogie Coupling Systems for Alstom’s Prima H3 Hybrid Shunting Locomotive

Liebherr-Transportation Systems received a follow-up order from ALSTOM Lokomotiven Service GmbH in Stendal (Germany) of eleven hydraulic bogie coupling systems for the three-axle Prima H3 hybrid shunting locomotive. Since 2014, the company has supplied ten systems for the Prima H3. Installation of the ordered bogie coupling systems is set to begin in July 2016.

The three axles of the locomotive are coupled with each other through the hydraulic system that Alstom and Liebherr developed together, so that the outer axles turn out when traveling around a bend while the central axle is shifted laterally. Thus, traveling through curves presents no difficulty for the vehicle despite its large axial distances. The bogie coupling system reduces wear on both wheels and tracks, as well as decreases noise emissions. The Prima H3 hybrid locomotive can be used for particularly heavy shunting duties due to Liebherr’s technology.
