Press releases | 23/06/2026
Colmar (France), 23 June 2026 – The Liebherr Group has officially started construction of its future manufacturing facility in Nambsheim (Haut-Rhin), in the presence of representatives of local government, corporate partners and teams from the Liebherr Group. This modern, industrial project further strengthens the family-run Group’s presence and industrial autonomy in Alsace.
This ceremony marks a turning point in the industrial development of Liebherr in the region and, at the same time, demonstrates the Group’s commitment to France and Europe as production sites. Furthermore, the construction of this new site expresses the Group’s desire for sustainable development of its production capacities while strengthening its regional presence in Alsace. Elected officials and corporate partners, together with teams from Liebherr, participated in the laying of the foundation stone, a symbolic gesture marking the kick-off of the construction works.
Driven by the Liebherr Group’s earthmoving division, the Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim site has a strong ambition: to relocate strategic expertise to a single location in order to strengthen the Group’s industrial autonomy. It is also responding to growing demand for construction machines manufactured in Europe.
This future site will specialise in the assembly of driver’s cabs for the Group’s earthmoving machines and, in the years to come, will boast a production capacity of up to 10,000 units per year.
The assembly plant is seen as a strong link in the internal logistics chain. It is based on a successful, sustainable and long-term production model in Nambsheim, in the heart of Europe.
‘By choosing Nambsheim as the location for this new site, Liebherr is making a major industrial decision: to relocate strategic expertise, create long-term jobs and strengthen the European production chain. The Grand Est Region will be fully committed to this project, providing support of at least one million euros. This is the aim of our work: to make our regions places where industry innovates and produces, and where the economic sovereignty of France and Europe is built in a meaningful way,’ declares Franck Leroy, President of the Grand Est Region regarding the project in Nambsheim.
With an investment of more than 100 million euros, Liebherr is confirming not only its faith in the industrial potential of Alsace but also its desire to continue its expansion in France.
Once complete, the Nambsheim site will accommodate more than 200 employees, thereby playing an active role in creating sustainable jobs in the region.
Located in a strategic area, near historical sites of the Liebherr Group, this project helps strengthen the local industrial ecosystem.
‘At Liebherr, we build for the long term. This project in Nambsheim fully embodies our values: a long-term vision, strong regional roots and high industrial standards. By investing here in Alsace, we are strengthening our ties with our customers in Europe and continuing to support them worldwide, with the aim of developing a high-performing, responsible and forward-looking industry,’ explains Sebastien Seitz Managing Director Production of Liebherr-France SAS.
Intended as a benchmark industrial site, Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim will integrate high standards in terms of environmental and energy performance. In particular, the plant is targeting a BREEAM certification, an international benchmark for sustainable construction, and adheres to an inclusive, overall approach: the optimisation of energy consumption, the use of renewable energies, responsible management of water and resources, and limitation of impact on residents. Beyond the infrastructure, the site embodies a forward-looking industrial vision: production that is more agile, more transparent and more respectful of its environment.
The site is scheduled to begin operations at the start of 2028, marking a new stage in the development of the Liebherr Group.
This project demonstrates the capacity of the Group – an independent, family-run company for more than 75 years – to make long-term investments to construct a solid, innovative and responsible European industry.
Located in France since 1961 at its historic Colmar site, Liebherr has progressively developed a solid industrial and commercial foundation in France. Today, the Group is consolidating several specialised sites there, in particular for earthmoving machines, mining and component production, as well as distribution and services. In Colmar alone, there are more than 3,000 employees distributed across several entities.
At the same time, in Toulouse, Liebherr has been a major player in aerospace systems since 1971 with Liebherr Aerospace. In total, the Group has 5,000 employees in France.
