4 key technologies on the T 264 Battery Electric you can see at Bauma 2025

Under the motto ‘Hands on the future’, Liebherr presents solutions for the construction and mine sites of the future at Bauma 2025. Discover more than 70 exhibits and a variety of customised solution concepts at Liebherr's 14,000 m2 booth – including the T 264 Battery Electric mining truck. Here are four key technologies you can see for yourself at this extraordinary exhibit.

Fortescue Zero battery

The T 264 Battery Electric on display at Bauma is powered by a battery instead of an internal combustion engine, making it possible for this enormous truck to run without burning any fossil fuels. The 3.2 MW battery was developed by Fortescue Zero. Before Fortescue Zero became part of Fortescue in 2022, the company – previously known as Williams Advanced Engineering – took technology developed for the Williams Racing Formula One team and adapted it for other industries! How cool is that?

To complement the field validation of this battery, Liebherr is building a brand-new test bench at its drivetrain factory in Biberach, Germany. With the test bench, it’s possible to simulate the full-scale battery-electric truck system in all haul profiles to check how it will work in different mine sites all over the world.

Static robotic charger

Static, or stationary, charging is the process of charging electric vehicles – like the T 264 Battery Electric truck – while parked. At Bauma, you’ll be able to see Fortescue’s static robotic charger in action. With its 6 MW capacity, this charger can charge the T 264 Battery Electric in under one hour!

Liebherr Power Rail

Dynamic charging charges an electric vehicle while it’s in motion. Liebherr Power Rail is one of Liebherr’s dynamic charging options for its battery-electric trucks. It’s a class-agnostic concept based on Liebherr’s proven trolley technology. But instead of connecting to overhead power lines, Liebherr Power Rail will make it possible for trucks to connect to power lines at the side of the truck, which can make the charging infrastructure easier to install and maintain. This lateral connection will also allow trucks to navigate around curves.

Using dynamic charging can also increase battery-electric trucks’ speed on grade, meaning they can travel uphill faster! Bauma visitors will be able to see the Liebherr Power Rail during live demonstrations at the Liebherr booth.

Autonomous Haulage Solution

The T 264 Battery Electric truck at Bauma features the Autonomous Haulage Solution (AHS) which will enable the truck to operate without a driver. This technology is being developed by Liebherr and Fortescue as part of our partnership for developing a zero emission mining ecosystem.

The AHS is being designed with the future in mind because it will work with both battery-electric trucks – like the T 264 Battery Electric at the Liebherr booth – and trucks with internal combustion engines. Our AHS will also feature an Energy Management System, which will monitor the truck fleet’s energy levels in real time and coordinate the static recharging of the trucks. The AHS will even be able to optimise routes and speeds of the trucks to reduce fuel and energy consumption and make sure the trucks are operating as efficiently as possible.

The T 264 Battery Electric Truck is on display close to the Liebherr Pavilion on the Liebherr booth.
