Fleet of over 40 Liebherr tower cranes at the urban development project “aspern+ Vienna’s Urban Lakeside”

The powerful EC-H crane’s load moments of 112 mt to 280 mt are the ideal equipment to handle the demands of the construction site. The flat-top cranes 160 EC-B 8 Litronic, 202 EC-B 10 Litronic and 250 EC-B 12 Litronic are also being used on the vast construction site.

The “aspern+ Vienna’s Urban Lakeside” construction project

The “aspern+ Vienna’s Urban Lakeside” construction project is one of the largest urban development projects in Europe. A new, multifunctional city quarter is being built on 240 hectares of land in the northeast of Vienna. More than 2.2 million square meters of gross floor area are being created, containing housing and office space as well as commercial, scientific and educational districts.

A total of four billion euros will be invested in the development of Aspern. Wien 3420 AG is financing the first construction phase for around 50 million euros to create the technical infrastructure. The entire project will span three phases, which will be completed by 2030.

In the first phase, 2009 to 2017, the green areas and central lake will be created along with the technical infrastructure. This phase includes the openings of the subway stations “Aspern” in the north and “Seestadt” in the south. The first project anchor is aspern IQ, a technology centre of the Vienna Business Agency.

Recently an amazing happening occurred at Vienna's Urban Lakeside. The dense jumbling of tower cranes with the Vienna skyline as backdrop was transformed into a fascinating and unique theatrical event at dusk. Around 40 illuminated tower cranes moved in tact to music, in tandem with a breathtaking light show.
