First Liebherr Mobile Harbour Crane with fossil-free diesel

The Port of Södertälje underlines its efforts to become a Green Port with the acquisition of the first Liebherr mobile harbour crane running on fossil-free HVO100 diesel. The new LHM 420 mobile harbour crane was recently delivered to the port and will significantly improve handling capacity in the container and project cargo sector.

"The timing for us to invest in a third mobile harbour crane is perfect. It means that we can offer our customers a more efficient handling and permits continuing growth within the container segment as well as project cargoes”, says Robert Tingvall, CEO at Port of Södertälje, “we have a very modern terminal, focusing on efficiency, automation, and digitisation. We are very pleased and happy about this new crane.”

#BOSmove - Single lift of two fully assembled BOS 4200

The single lift of the BOS 4200 including transportation was realized by the Travelling Cargo Crane TCC 78000, one of the world's most powerful rail-mounted heavy-duty gantry cranes. After the successful lift, the barge could start its journey directly through the Baltic Sea to the customer's platform.

An outreach of up to 72 metres and a maximum lifting capacity of 125 tonnes make the BOS 4200 one of the most powerful and flexible machines for supplying oil and gas platforms and also for maintenance work.

8 STS – Over 1,500,000 TEU

With the final two STS entering service in April, Tanger Alliance at the TC3 terminal in Tanger Med is operating at full capacity with eight new Liebherr ship to shore container cranes.

An outreach of 72 m (26 rows) and a lift height over rail of 54 m, allows the cranes to easily handle the current and next generation of ultra large container vessels.

1,300 maritime cranes – from Rostock to the world

Since the start of production in 2005, Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH has manufactured and delivered over 1,000 maritime cranes. Today, the numerous mobile harbour, ship and offshore cranes are in use in over 100 countries on all continents. Now the 1,300th crane has left the Rostock premises to its destination in Ghana.

Liebherr's maritime cranes are shipped safely, efficiently and on schedule. The machines are delivered either dismantled, partially or completely assembled, mostly on ships or barges. Transportation by rail or road is also possible.

With its direct connection to the sea, the Liebherr plant in Rostock is perfectly suited for the international shipment of large-scale equipment. Experienced teams of specialists have access to numerous loading options.

Rhenus relies on Liebherr in Hamburg

Rhenus Midgard is replacing a more than 20-year-old Liebherr LHM 320 with a new Liebherr machine. The LHM 420, recently delivered by project logistics specialist Rhenus Project Logistics, will mainly handle breakbulk and containers at the Dradenau Terminal in the Port of Hamburg. In addition to a significant increase in productivity, the crane also means a further reduction in emissions at the Port of Hamburg for Rhenus thanks to state-of-the-art drive and exhaust technology.

Helge Behrend, Managing Director of Rhenus Midgard Hamburg: "With the new mobile harbour crane, we will see further increases in handling volumes and, also in combination with the 'Greenliner' concept that has been successfully established for more than ten years now – moving goods from the road to the water – we will make an even greater contribution in Hamburg to reducing emissions and relieving the pressure on roads.“

Two Liebherr CBB 3800 on maiden voyage

At the beginning of May, two CBB 3800 were commissioned and left the shipyard on dship carriers' MV Ronnie. They had their first deployment when loading the vessel with 637 TEU containers, which will be unloaded again in Liverpool, UK. This was only a warm-up, as the two Liebherr ship cranes can lift 250 t each and are not only used for container operations.

Alongside the MV Keith and the MV Mick, this is now the third vessel from dship carriers to be fitted with Liebherr ship cranes. The MV Ronnie is a latest-generation multi-purpose vessel that supports the company's contribution to environmentally friendly shipping solutions with its energy-saving propulsion system.
