Liebherr self-erecting K-series takes on North America

  • New 43 K, 61 K and 91 K models deliver higher performance, greater reach and unmatched jobsite versatility
  • Intelligent assistance systems such as Sway Control Plus, Positioning Pilot, Guided Hook and Vertical Line Finder increase safety, precision, and operator comfort
  • Self-erecting cranes offer major advantages for the US market: compact footprint, multi-trade usability, reduced equipment traffic, and maximized jobsite efficiency

Liebherr is bringing its new generation of K self-erecting cranes to North America. A milestone for contractors and rental companies seeking compact equipment with high lifting capacity, rapid deployment and intelligent automation. Paired with five new assistance systems, the 43 K, 61 K and 91 K set new standards for safety, precision, and productivity on US jobsites.

At Conexpo, Liebherr presents a completely renewed generation of self-erecting K cranes, tailored to meet the demands of the North American construction market. The new models 43 K, 61 K and 91 K combine compact transport dimensions, powerful lifting capacities and exceptional adaptability on tight urban jobsites. In addition, Liebherr introduces a full suite of intelligent assistance systems that significantly increase precision, jobsite safety, and operator comfort. The existing 125 K, the largest self-erecting crane in the lineup completes the portfolio and is particularly well suited for mid- to high-rise residential and commercial construction in the US.

K-crane series: compact, powerful, and built for modern US jobsites

The new K series is well suited for the needs of North American construction, where strict safety requirements and rising labor costs shape daily operations. K cranes arrive as a complete unit and can be set up quickly and with minimal effort, a true plug-and-play solution that enables rapid project starts and seamless integration into tight schedules.

Despite their compact footprint, the cranes cover large working areas and reach over existing structures with ease. Variable jib lengths, telescoping tower configurations and up to eleven hook height options allow the cranes of the K-series to adapt to a wide variety of applications, from single-family construction to mid-rise commercial developments and infrastructure projects. The high lifting capacities supplemented by strong tip loads and impressive hoist speeds enable contractors to handle everything from concrete and formwork to HVAC units, prefabricated elements and roofing materials.

A significant advantage in the North American market is that a single K crane can replace several machines traditionally used for material handling. Instead of multiple telehandlers navigating congested sites, one tower crane provides full coverage from a fixed position. This reduces traffic, minimizes the risk of accidents, protects landscaping and surrounding structures, and allows subcontractors to coordinate workflows more efficiently. Since all lifting operations are centralized at one point, jobsite control improves noticeably while labor requirements decrease. Maintenance and service costs remain low thanks to the cranes’ robust design and simplified operator training.

For rental companies, the broad application spectrum results in high utilization rates. Fast setup, low maintenance, strong residual values and appeal across multiple customer segments make K cranes an attractive investment for equipment fleets. The existing 125 K, although not equipped with the new assistance systems, remains a perfect fit for the US market due to its height, reach and versatility.

Intelligent assistance systems: safety, precision and comfort

A key innovation of the new K generation is the integration of Liebherr’s intelligent assistance systems. These automated functions support operators during challenging lifts, improve handling accuracy and significantly increase safety on site. All assistance systems are available for the 43 K, 61 K and 91 K models.

The system Sway Control Plus actively stabilizes the hook block while the crane is moving. The system detects load movements, wind effects and operator inputs and automatically counteracts sway. The result is precise, sway-free lifting in environments where accuracy is essential, particularly in dense urban areas or when working close to existing buildings. The system Guided Hook further simplifies challenging operations by allowing workers on the ground to position the hook manually when it is outside the operator’s line of sight. This reduces communication effort, accelerates workflow and greatly enhances safety when lifting behind obstructions or between buildings.

With Vertical Line Finder, loads are lifted exactly vertically without diagonal pull. The system autonomously positions the hook above the load’s center of gravity, preventing dangerous side forces and protecting both people and sensitive components. For repetitive lifting cycles, Positioning Pilot offers substantial relief by storing up to three hook positions and two routes. The crane can automatically travel these paths with high precision, making it ideal for concrete placement, unloading processes and other tasks requiring consistent accuracy and repetitive movements.

All assistance systems rely on the new Liebherr Control 5 control platform and the Tower Crane Operating System 2 (TC-OS 2). These technologies enable intuitive operation, high computing performance, and seamless integration of automation features across the crane’s functions.

A powerful solution for North America’s construction future

With growing complexity on construction sites, rising safety expectations and increasing pressure for efficient, sustainable equipment, Liebherr’s new K series presents a compelling option for the North American market. Compact dimensions, strong lifting performance, fast mobilization and advanced automation combine to create a crane fleet ready for the challenges of modern urban construction.
