Gear Seminar in Brazil
In November 2024 Liebherr Brasil LTDA held one of its renowned Gear Seminars on gear technology in Guaratinguetá, Brazil. Industry experts were in the spotlight as their presentations focused on grinding, soft machining and measuring technologies. The program provided the wide range of participants with well-grounded technical knowledge and practical know-how, and showcased the expertise and services available at the Brazilian site. The accompanying program offered space for knowledge sharing and direct networking.
At the Guaratinguetá site, Liebherr- Verzahntechnik GmbH operates under the Liebherr Brasil umbrella. As well as extensive services and the general overhaul of older machines within the Reman program on site, the gear technology product area also produces gear hobbing machines. Gear measuring technology has been enhancing the portfolio since 2023. Close proximity to other Liebherr product segments on site allows further synergies, especially as regards the requirements of the Brazilian market. “We want to demonstrate that we have a broad portfolio specially tailored to the local market,” says Rodrigo Manzano, Head of Gear Cutting Machines Division in Guaratinguetá.
“Liebherr imparted well-grounded knowledge and introduced innovations and new technology in machining, equipment and systems geared to current market demands.”
High-quality, practical seminars
Over two days, experts from Germany and Brazil presented – in English or Portuguese with simultaneous interpreting – on the current developments in gear technologies, from hobbing, grinding and gear skiving processes to chamfering and measuring technologies. Experts from partner companies also offered practical insights into using modern grinding tools and cooling lubricants. Live demonstrations on gear measuring technology and a bin-picking application rounded off the program. Participants were able to get an impression of the entire site, including the Components and Aerospace divisions, in the concluding factory tour. The LC 280 α and LC 280 DC gear hobbing machines which began production in 2024 piqued particular interest during the tour. Dr. Oliver Winkel, Head of Application Technology, emphasizes: “This format enables us to offer our customers high-quality seminars with know-how from field experts. The high level of interest shows us we have taken the right approach: More companies have already signed up for the next Gear Seminar.”
“The seminar is an excellent platform for innovative solutions in gear technology. The contacts made and the impressions on site will encourage future investment and development.”
Broad spectrum of participants
Among the around 70 participants were representatives from industrial concerns, higher education institutions, sector newcomers and experienced gear technology specialists. Particularly notable was the wide range of sectors and company sizes represented, from multinational groups to medium-sized enterprises down to specialist job shops and suppliers.
“The technical discussions and the tour of the factory impressively laid out the range of services Liebherr currently offers in Brazil!”
Thinking outside the box
Alongside sharing gear knowledge, the evening event on day one of the seminar provided the ideal environment for discussions beyond technical matters. “Enjoying the best possible weather and excellent food, we were able to extensively compare notes in a relaxed environment on topics beyond gear technologies,” confirms Tobias Färber, Regional Sales Manager for South America. It was a particular pleasure for me to observe how enthusiastically participants engaged. This gives us valuable insights as to where we need to act in practice and inspiration which we will take back to our work.” The Gear Seminar in Guaratinguetá successfully demonstrated that Liebherr can combine technological expertise with a customer focus and collaborative approach.
