Shipping / Transport OfficerKillarney
Responsible for coordinating the movement of components from factory to vessel, including packing list generation, pre-dispatch verification, and transport documentation. The role involves planning and scheduling standard and abnormal loads, obtaining permits from relevant authorities, and liaising with internal departments, subcontractors, and port operations to align load sequencing with vessel departure schedules. The position requires accurate record keeping across all logistics activity and compliance with transport regulations.
Responsibilities
- Generate detailed packing lists in accordance with design drawings and project shipment schedules.
- Mark all components with shipping marks before dispatch ensuring accurate identification and traceability.
- Conduct pre-dispatch verification to confirm all components listed are either factory-fitted or correctly packaged, eliminating short shipments.
- Capture and document component weights and dimensions before dispatch.
- Co-ordinating the transport of special loads between Christy Lucey Transport, Kerry County Council, Cork County Council, E.S.B., Eircom, and the Garda Traffic Corp.
- Applying for and obtaining permits from Kerry County Council/Cork County Council for special loads.
- Plan and schedule load transfers between yard operations, contracted hauliers (including Lucey Transport and Doyle’s, Fenit) and Cobh Dockyard (LCC Assembly site).
- Assess transport restrictions such as bridge capacities, road classifications, height limitations, and escort requirements.
- Recording details of smaller components packed in large units
- Recording weight of each load and dating of dispatch to Fenit for storage charge calculation.
- Recording details of all items going and coming from subcontractors.
- Recording details of hire of mobile crane/fork lifts/man lifts or any other equipment at Fenit port.
- Ensuring that the lashing of each load leaving the factory is properly carried out and that the load can be transported in a safe manner.
- Liaising directly with the various departments within LCC where necessary.
- Liaise with the Purchasing Department to confirm if any parts will be direct-to-site deliveries.
- Coordinate subcontractor deliveries to Fenit, aligning load sequencing well in advance of the vessel’s departure.
- To follow up with missing parts from LCC and various sub-contractors
- To ensure the maintenance of all plant and equipment is up to the required standard and were necessary to replace / repair any defects
- Create and report BSM’s on the various issues that arise during the operation.
- Travel to various destinations (within or outside Ireland) in relation to transport requirements
- Any other duties as directed by department manager.
Qualifications / Experience / Requirements
- Experience in Logistics, shipping, abnormal/special or freight forwarding.
- Experience in planning and coordinating transport movements to meet operational deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of import/export compliance and customs procedures desirable but not essential.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly when dealing with transport disruptions.
- Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations within transport and logistics.
- Experience in a manufacturing, port operations or heavy industry environment
- Forklift or crane banksman certification desirable but not essential.
