On 19 January 2009, Valery Shantsev, Governor and Head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional government, and Dr.h.c. Dipl.-Ing. (ETH) Willi Liebherr, President of the Liebherr-International AG Administrative Board and proprietor of the Liebherr Group of Companies, made a joint visit to the Liebherr construction site by the M7 motorway near the city of Dzerzhinsk.
During their meeting, Valery Shantsev and Willi Liebherr placed a time capsule for future generations in the foundations of the new production site in recognition of their partnership in implementing the construction project.
Liebherr began building the new production facilities on a 120 hectare site in autumn 2008.
Liebherr-Nizhny Novgorod OOO will produce and assemble construction equipment such as earthmoving machines and tower cranes at the Dzerzhinsk site. In addition, the company will manufacture hydraulic components, transmissions and steel components. The site will also be used by Liebherr-Aerospace Nizhny Novgorod OOO to manufacture and service components for the aeronautical industry.
The planned investment volume for the whole project will amount to more than € 200 million. With this investment, the Liebherr group will create more than 600 permanent new jobs in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The construction of the production site underlines Liebherr's long-term commitment in Russia and the Nizhny Novgorod region.
