The new construction project at the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town for the 2010 Football World Cup at present has a total of 19 Liebherr top-slewing cranes in operation.

In summer 2007 Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH supplied twelve brand-new tower cranes for the Green Point Stadium project in Cape Town, South Africa. The delivery included eight top-slewing cranes of types 200 EC H 10 and 280 EC H 12 Litronic, as well as four 200 EC B 10 Litronic Flat-Top cranes.

With an investment volume of 285 million €, the old Green Point Stadium, which only had capacity for 18,000 spectators, is being replaced by an entirely new structure in preparation for the 2010 Football World Cup. The overall project also includes improvements to the stadium infrastructure, such as additional parking space, catering areas, VIP sections, and events offices. Green Point Stadium is located in the famous Victoria and Alfred Waterfront district, in a spacious and attractive park. Completion of the conversion and new construction project is scheduled for November 2009.

Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH frequently feature in projects of this scale not only as crane suppliers but also as service providers for the engagement project planning of the installed crane park. Liebherr were already providing the know-how gathered over the decades for the 2006 World Cup, skills gained from the project planning of extremely difficult crane operations in numerous stadium construction situations, among others the Allianz-Arena in Munich.

For the construction of the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town, Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH were again able to offer an economical and complete solution. The equipping and positioning of the twelve new cranes being used in the construction of the stadium was planned as a project in Biberach and the statics carefully calculated. This included the selection of the cranes as well as the ideal individual configuration of each individual equipment unit, with the aim of creating a technically co-ordinated and economically optimised total crane park.
