On 4 July, German Federal President Horst Köhler visited Liebherr-Hausgeräte Marica EOOD as part of an official visit to the Republic of Bulgaria. The Federal President was received at the Bulgarian HQ in Radinovo, near Plovdiv, by the Liebherr Group’s sibling managers Isolde and Willi Liebherr.
In his welcome speech, Willi Liebherr underlined the Liebherr Group’s sustained growth policy, which draws on innovative power and the strengths of a family business steeped in tradition. He went on to say that Liebherr invests considerable amounts of its internal finances in enhancing production capacities, thereby creating additional jobs, in Germany especially. Willi Liebherr also pointed out that the Group attaches great value to education: its European companies are currently home to over 1,000 apprentices.

As he toured the plant, the Federal President took every opportunity to talk to the various members of staff. Köhler heard that the Bulgarian plant developed and manufactured equipment in the top A++ energy efficiency class. Liebherr has succeeded in halving its machines’ energy consumption over the last 10 years, which in turn has cut CO2 emissions by 50 percent.
