Liebherr mining excavators now also produced in Brazil
In early 2006, Liebherr Brasil Ltda. of Guaratinguetá, Brazil, took over production of the 230-tonne Liebherr R 994 Litronic large hydraulic excavator, which was designed specifically for mining applications. The first three units of this 973-kW/1,323-hp specialist excavator to be built in Brazil were sold to the Brazilian Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD). The second machine from this order run was handed over to the customer in a small ceremony in Guaratinguetá in late March.
The R 994 Litronic, which was previously built by Liebherr-France SAS in Colmar, is one of the most successful large machines in Liebherr’s comprehensive construction machinery range. It first came to the market in 1986, since when over 200 machines of this type have been built.
