Four Liebherr lift cranes with a total lifting capacity of 1,060 t were used to replace the convection zone of a refinery in Wilhelmshaven, weighing 250 t and situated at a height of 20 m.

Two pairs of lift cranes, types LR 1400/1 and LR 1130, made tandem lifts. The preparations for these complicated lifts lasted a week – the necessary equipment was transported to the site with 30 low loaders. After the two LR 1130 had lifted the flue gas duct by a few centimeters and had a total load of 52 t on the hooks, the two 400 t machines, type LR 1400/1, were able to lift the 260 t convection zone. With the 24 m long steel section suspended on their ropes the cranes travelled approx. 80 m through a narrow passage between the refinery facilities.
