Six Liebherr crawler cranes, type HS 855 HD, are currently employed in dynamic soil compaction for the development of the Al Khiran coastal area.  Within the next 10 years, this 20 km² large coastal area will be developed with housing as well as artificial lagoons and beaches for more than 100,000 residents.

The HS 855 HD crawler cranes are equipped with an automatic control system for the free-fall winches – ideal for the compaction of the coastal areas. The embankment was compacted with a 25 t drop weight and a drop height of 25 m. In the first phase a total area of 1.1 million square meters was compacted within 6 months.  During this time the Liebherr crawler cranes achieved a total number of 950,000 working cycles.
