The new 400-tonne LTM 1400/1, a compact heavy-duty crane
Liebherr has now closed the gap between its six-axle 300-tonne and eight-axle 500-tonne mobile cranes with the new seven-axle LTM 1400/1. This has a 60 m long five-section telescopic boom of exceptional torsional rigidity, and weighs 84 t ready for the road. It is the most compact crane in its class, only 18.5 m in overall length and with a turning-circle radius of 14.5 m. As on the LTM 1090/3 the new speed-dependent rear-axle steering reduces tyre wear, minimised rear-end swing-out and makes the vehicle more convenient to drive.

New driveline standards are set by the 441 kW (600 hp) turbocharged diesel engine of Liebherr’s own manufacture, which has been optimised to comply with the EURO 3 exhaust emission limits, and the modern automated-shift ZF-TC-TRONIC 12-speed gearbox with converter lock-up clutch and Intarder. The ZF gearbox has a programmed automatic-shift strategy designed to ensure economical travel, with the engine speed adapted to match the effective engine-brake performance. The crane superstructure has diesel-hydraulic drive, using a 240 kW (326 hp) Liebherr turbocharged diesel engine in a noise-reducing enclosure. This has ample reserves of power to drive the four variable-pitch hydraulic pumps. Using the 60 m telescopic boom in conjunction with fixed or luffing lattice fly jibs up to 84 m long, with the novel Y-pattern telescopic boom guying and with the erecting fly jib and mast projection, the LTM 1400/1 can provide tailormade solutions for the most varied operating tasks, reaching heights of up to 122 m under the hook and working radii of up to 92 m if necessary.
