Q: Mr. Uhlig, please explain what Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) at Liebherr stands for.

A: The core of our EMS is board production, final assembly and testing.

Our board production is a sequential process including paste printing, 3D-paste-inspection, pick & place, SMD and THT soldering, automatic optical and X-ray inspection of assembled boards, in-circuit tests as well as coating.

Final assembly is performed manually and automated, depending on the complexity of the process and is supported by an integrated quality-system.

Each unit is end of line-tested as requested by our customers. Such tests may include functional tests, environmental stress screening and highly accelerated stress screening.

Q: EMS is not new on the market. Where does Liebherr distinguish itself from the competitors?

A: True, there are many companies offering EMS. We believe that being both a proven aerospace and industrial electronics manufacturer and developer enables us to provide enhanced services around the core business of EMS. For instance, if a customer requires support in the fields of procurement and obsolescence management or engineering activities like modifications, qualification and cost improvement initiatives, we stand ready to offer customized solutions out of one hand.

A: Correct, our EMS portfolio is based on modularity. We offer classic EMS and enhanced services. Our customers receive Made-in-Germany quality and can expect quick response times for the enhanced services as all our capabilities are located under one roof, here in Lindau. Furthermore, our customers can expect us to listen and to get a full understanding of their products as well as creating solutions enhancing the competitiveness of their products.
